Special Saturday Dance: What’s the Big Apple???
Hep Jen will teach the most widely known version of the Big Apple, as performed by Whitey's Lindy Hoppers (with Frankie Manning!) in the 1938 movie "Jittering Jitterbugs". Hep Jen has been teaching the Big Apple for four years, and has performed the Big Apple with three different performance troupes. Get ready for a challenging, fast-paced workshop that's loaded with FUN! This workshop is a total of 6 hours (3 hours each day) to allow plenty of time to learn and practice this dance. It is open to dancers of all levels and is a great way to add some style, moves, and inspiration to your Lindy Hop as well as picking up a whole new dance! Special Saturday Night Dance! To add to the weekend’s events, there will be a special Saturday night dance at one of Orlando’s newest venues for swing dancing, Dance Orlando! Dancing will be from 9pm to midnight. The evening will kick off with a special beginner dance lesson in Collegiate Shag by Rob & Dawn! Signup & Price: Advanced registration is only $35!

The Big Apple was a 1930s dance craze that started in South Carolina and caused a
frenzy when it hit Harlem's Savoy Ballroom. The Big Apple is danced in a circle, and is loaded with
high-energy jazz steps and fun footwork. The Big Apple is a super addition to any swing dancer's
repertoire, and learning it is a great way to pick up the styling of some of the original Lindy Hoppers.
In the last couple of years, the Big Apple has enjoyed a revival in popularity among swing dancers
nationwide.
