Our First Instructor

Wednesday, November 21st, 2007

Rob, Dawn, and DavidYour first introduction to dancing (especially for guys) can make it or break it for you.  This was especially true for me as Dawn drug me out to our first lesson to learn to dance for our wedding. Well, this weekend, Dawn and I were at an event and ran into our very first dance instructor, David Whittaker. We can pretty much credit David’s wonderful personality and welcoming attitude  as the reason I continued on past the first lesson. For someone like me who walked in intimidated and skeptical, he made dancing fun, easy, and showed me that it’s something anyone can do. As a result, I wanted to learn to dance and drug Dawn back. :) Thank you, David!

David has since retired from dancing and is pursuing projects as an author and reviving his career as an actor. We wish him the best, and hope to see him on TV or the silver screen soon! We hope to continue on the tradition of introducing people to dancing through a welcoming an encouraging attitude in our own teaching.

Vacation Photos - The Rest

Wednesday, November 14th, 2007

At long last, I posted the rest of the vacation photos to our Flickr gallery. Feel free to drop by and comment. The first batch that I posted a few weeks ago are from England. The second batch are all from Ireland.

I have a special photo project that I am working to get online in about a week. After that, I’ll be working to backfill some of the photos that have been building up on me.

Motion Sickness and Dancing

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

Over the years, we’ve run into a few people (from all age ranges) who are highly prone to motion sickness. The turning and moving of dancing would effect them and at times limit what moves they could do. Fortunately, there is a very effective remedy for this! After watching a Mythbusters episode where they put motion sickness “cures” to the test, we started recommending ginger tablets to people. Ginger is all natural and can be bought at almost any heath food store or even in the vitamin section of most grocery and drug stores. The people we’ve recommended it to take it shortly before dancing and have reported back that it works great! In almost every case, they’ve said that the effects of motion sickness while dancing are pretty much gone.

Gotta love simple home remedies! :)

Photos Through The Years

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

Rob & Dawn Through the YearsTo celebrate dancing together for ten years, Dawn and I decided to gather up and post some photos of us dancing over the last decade. Feel free to drop by the gallery and take a trip down memory lane.

It’s interesting that you tend to take more photos of yourself when you are traveling or visiting other areas or are at special events. As a result, I’ve found that we have few photos of us dancing at our frequent haunts. Also, I only looked through our digital photo collection. I’m sure we have more photos of our “early days” of dancing somewhere on film. One day I’ll dig those up and scan them in.

Have some old photos of us that you would like to contribute? We’d love to see them! Feel free to drop us a line!
