Our decision has been made…

Posted on February 13th, 2015 by

FamilyAfter lots of consideration and soul-searching, we have decided not to come back to teaching dance. Our work lives and the more important role of parents keep us so busy now that what free time we have together we like to spend it as a family. That being said, we miss teaching and especially the opportunity it gave us to meet such great people (many of whom became good friends to us) and do something we loved and were passionate about.

For those of you who are looking for private lessons, you can reach out to Chad and Kelly Adams. Group series classes are harder to come by here in Orlando. As always, the 2nd and 4th Saturday Swing Dances are still being held at Whirl and Twirl and it’s a great opportunity to catch a beginning lesson, then dance the night away to some great music.

We hope that you have a great time learning to swing dance and that it serves you as well in life as it has us. Thank you for the opportunity to share our love and passion for swing dancing over the years. Thank you for the patronage, friendship, and support our past students and dance attendees have given us. We pray that God blesses you greatly in this new year and beyond 😀

Still on hiatus…

Posted on January 28th, 2014 by

Reagan Christmas 2013We are still on hiatus from doing any classes or dances at this time (enjoying time with our almost two old daughter Reagan). However, the 2nd and 4th Saturday Swing Dances are still going on at Whirl and Twirl. There is a group lessons that happens before the dance and is included in the price of admission.

So if you need to learn the basics to get started, that is a great way! You can find out more information at And you can always keep up to date on upcoming events by signing up for the twice a month swing email (look on the right side of this page under Stay Tuned In).

We dearly miss seeing everyone on a regular basis and are not sure when we will come back to teaching series classes or putting on dances again. We hope you had a very Merry Christmas and have a blessed 2014!!

Confusion on class dates…

Posted on May 1st, 2013 by

I recently realized that there were old class dates listed on the various series class pages and that this was confusing for people browsing out site. It made it look like these classes were going on during the dates listed. I apologize for the confusion and I have removed any dates listed on the series class pages as the classes are still on hiatus. The start up date for the next set of classes is to be determined.

You can always check back to this site for class schedule updates and/or sign up for the swing email that goes out twice a month. Class announcements as well as swing dance announcements are listed in the swing email. It’s a great way to stay tuned in to what’s happening in the local Orlando swing scene! In the meantime, feel free to contact us if you have any series class questions 🙂

Swingout Saturday dance April 6th!

Posted on March 17th, 2013 by

That’s right, mark Saturday April 6th on your calendar and plan to attend the first Swingout Saturday dance of 2013! The format has changed a tad in that we are not providing a beginner lesson before the dance and we have removed an admission price. Instead we have a suggest donation price of $5/person to cover the cost of the rental.

The music will be as hot and swinging as ever though so don’t miss the chance to dance to Hot Jazz, Big Band, Early 50’s rock and roll, and many more swing music genres. Rob and Anna will be dancing to and spinning the tunes. Dawn and Shelley will also be available for social dancing as well. Reagan is also dancing, but not any actual footsteps….she’s still in training (she just turned one after all) 🙂 Click here to get more information such as directions and we all look forward to seeing you on April 6th!

Using “underpinnings” for vintage shape

Posted on November 12th, 2010 by

I just came across this great article that talks about how you can use modern shapeware/foundation garments to achieve a vintage body shape with your clothes. The author interviewed the stylist for the show “Mad Men”, a modern show set in the 1950’s. She talks about how to measure yourself to get accurate measurements and how to achieve the smooth, curvy shape of decades gone by. I personally know there are many many shapeware options available these days that help us achieve what ever body shape we desire.

New to swing dancing? Read our beginner guide.

“I wanted to send a little note expressing my appreciation for the amazing job you did teaching me how to dance. I went to all the events for ORLX this past weekend and had some wonderful compliments about my dancing. The biggest one, that topped them all was when a lead said to me, "...your style of dancing is so authentic. It is how the old timers would say they used to dance." Thank you, thank you, thank you...for keeping true to the origin of the dance and passing that on to your students without corruption. It made me extra proud to say who my instructors were. Another lead I danced with was from JAX and attended your workshop there and after I told him who I learned from he said, "oh, yes of course! you are so lucky to have them in Orlando." I just beamed and agreed. What more can one say...keep up the good work seems trite, but it is heartfelt!”
